Eagle’s Nest: The Yoga Retreat of your Dreams (Lake Atitlan, Guatemala)

I had the pleasure of staying at the most gorgeousssss hotel in San Marcos, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.
I arrived from Antigua after booking a roughly 3 hour shuttle to Panajachel. From there, I took the local ferry (lancha). It cost roughly $3 USD, or 25 Guatemalan Quetzales. (pro tip: do not book ahead or a private boat- they will upcharge you!) these lanchas take off as early as 7am and I think until 8pm. The ferry stops in many common ports around Lake Atitlan. To get to eagles nest, you get off at San Marcos (keep your eyes and ears out as theres no obvious signs for each port). From there, I suggest taking a tuktuk, which is a small tricycle. These guys know where to go and can get you there for some change. Otherwise, its just a 13 minute hike. However fair warning, it is a hike lol. Its a bit uphill and through rural steps, you must enter through a little alley and follow the yellow arrows up!

Once there, you are greeted by a gorgeous gorgeous view of the lake. the best view is from the yoga deck. this hotel offers many different workshops besides yoga, such as aerial classes. if youre a guest at the hotel, these workshops are free! otherwise i think theyre around $20 USD each.

the hotel also offers a mayan sauna, and on tuesdays, they offer the mayan fire ceremony which is a beautiful introduction into the mayan culture. its led by a beautiful couple, Carlos and his wife, who own their own place, magic beans house in san marcos. there, they offer different services like mayan limpia (spiritual cleansing), and beans reading, which I did. it was a beautiful reading and i learned so much about the mayan spirit guides, or nahual. everyones is different, you can compare it to zodiac signs, but more for ancestors. also during the fire ceremony, you burn candles and call upon your ancestors for blessings and to rid of energy, from my understanding!

the hotel also offers clean and healthy food! its super sustainable, i mean just look at their bathrooms:

the yoga session i completed was with one of their resident teachers, who also has education in psych, so she incorporated some interesting neurology with our yoga session.

and if youre staying here, be prepared to sleep in a tent. its such a breathtaking place to wake up though – the birds will gently wake you in the most serene lake. i spent my birthday here and it was amazing just getting to meet other people (i made a friend who it was also her birthday!)

overall just a super beautiful and spiritual place! highly highly recommend.
