Getting there was a breeze — just a 30-minute drive from the city, followed by a short 10-minute walk down a well-maintained path that leads straight to the falls. The hike is easy, suitable for all fitness levels, and totally worth it.
When I reached the falls, I was in awe of the beautiful red rock formations that give Pulangbato its name (“pulangbato” means “red rock” in Filipino). The sight of the cascading water against the vibrant red backdrop is truly mesmerizing. And yes, you can swim in the natural pool at the base of the falls! The water is cool and refreshing, with an average temperature of around 18-22°C (64-72°F), which felt perfect on a hot day. The rocks around the pool can be slippery, so I wore water shoes for extra safety.
What made the experience even more special was the nearby hot springs. After enjoying the refreshing coolness of the falls, I spent some time relaxing in the natural thermal pools. The warm water from the hot springs is incredibly soothing, and it’s the perfect way to unwind after a swim or hike. The contrast of the cool and hot water made for an unforgettable experience!
For what to wear, I recommend comfortable clothes, a swimsuit, and water shoes for both the falls and the hot springs. The entrance fee is very affordable, only about PHP 20 (roughly $0.40 USD), making it a budget-friendly stop for travelers.
The overall activity level is low, with minimal hiking and a lot of opportunities for relaxation, so it’s perfect for families or anyone looking to enjoy nature at a leisurely pace. snorkeling at Apo Island (Turtle Point)
Snorkeling at Apo Island was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. Located just a short boat ride from Dumaguete, Apo Island is a marine sanctuary known for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and rich marine life. Most snorkeling tours provide everything you need — flippers, life vests, and snorkels — so you can simply jump in and enjoy the beauty beneath the surface.
As we sailed across the calm, warm blue waters, I was in awe of how clear everything was. It felt like I was swimming in a giant aquarium! The highlight of the trip was definitely Turtle Point. If you visit, you will see sea turtles! We were lucky enough to swim alongside these graceful creatures, who seemed completely at ease as they glided through the water. It was such an unforgettable moment. (Bring your waterproof camera!)
The entire snorkeling experience typically lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours, with a combination of time spent in the water and sailing between spots. The guides were super friendly, leading us through the best areas to see the colorful reefs and marine life.
